NEW MADRID - Bill Nance's move to the superintendent's job isn't the only change students discovered when they returned to class last week. Several other new staff members have joined the R-1 district for the coming year.
John Garner is the new principal at New Madrid County Central High School. Garner, who has been involved in education for 10 years, formerly served as principal at Portageville High School.
Scott Kruse, who joined the district in 2003, was named the assistant middle school principal.
New teachers include:
Andrea Baker, English, and Ronda Maltbia, alternative education, joined the staff at Central High School.
At the Middle School are Rebecca Combs, vocal music; Peggy Cross, learning disabilities; Jon Giddens, band; and Marcus Long, physical education.
Courtney Giddens is a basic skills teacher and Jessica Kloeppel, behavioral disorders, for Lilbourn Elementary School.
Non-certified staff hired for the 2005-06 school year are: Kitty Anglin, Lilbourn assistant teacher/bus driver; Charles Blair, Lilbourn/Middle School custodian; Lisa Broyles, New Madrid Elementary assistant teacher; Tricia Hale, Matthews Elementary bus driver; Jamie Higgerson, New Madrid Elementary teacher aide; Patricia Johnson, New Madrid Elementary teacher aide; Karen Lively, New Madrid Elementary bus driver; Sheila McFerren, Lilbourn Elementary assistant teacher; Jana Wrather, Matthews Elementary custodian; and Sheila Walker, Middle/High School custodian/bus driver.
Retired teachers who are currently working in the district, include: Brad Whatley, part-time English at Central High School; Peggy Sides, full-time math at Central High School; Bob Pulliam, part-time counselor at Matthews Elementary; Eddie Sipp, full-time data processing program at Central High School; and Patty Taylor, full-time special programs for New Madrid Elementary.
