SIKESTON - Clifton E. Jones has been promoted to the rank of corporal in France, it was learned recently.

SIKESTON - The United Fund of Sikeston campaign increased its funds up to 75 percent of the $37,200 quota today, it was reported by Hershel Tyler, co-chairman of the campaign, at a meeting of fund directors and workers Tuesday afternoon.

SIKESTON - The first deer reported killed from the Sikeston area was by A.X. James, Route 2, brought down at 8:10 a.m. Friday. It was his first in four seasons.

CHARLESTON - Mississippi County residents honored the war dead Saturday morning with a Veterans Day parade and memorial ceremony. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliary, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans participated in the memorial service on the courthouse lawn. This included placing of a wreath on the county monument and a 21-gun salute.

MORLEY - The Morley Branch of the First Midwest Bank of Chaffee will mark its 20th anniversary with an open house Tuesday. The bank opened on Nov. 15, 1974, with Jackie Heeb and Jeannie Williams as two of the employees. The women are still members of the bank's staff today.


SIKESTON - Local Boy Scouts spent the weekend picking up donations of food for the needy. The food was sorted at the Sikeston Armory by Cherokee District Executive Bill Crowell of the Boy Scouts and Glen Sitzes and taken to the Sikeston Food Bank to be distributed.
