SIKESTON - Two families have additions locally. Sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shaver Tuesday.
ESSEX - Travis Dale Hux is on the list of 31 Missouri residents injured in the fighting in World War II. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.M. Hux and the cousin of John Hux of Sikeston.
MOREHOUSE - Sue Jennings was selected valedictorian of the 1962 graduating class at Morehouse High School. Alice McCain was salutatorian.
NEW MADRID - A bit of the community's history has been put together in a quilt. Thirty blocks forming a queen size quilt have been created by members of the New Madrid County Club in honor of the Civil War Reenactment scheduled for June.
SIKESTON - Renowned musician Mimi Allen isn't only familiar with harp strings, she knows about heart strings, too. Hers have been tugged by children at St. Jude Research and Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., for quite some time. "They said they needed music for children who could not get around," Allen recalled. "Everyone turned to me and said, 'Mimi, you do it.' So I did." Completing the album wasn't an easy project. The songs recorded could not be offensive to disabled children. For example, the traditional song, Three Blind Mice was renamed Three Nice Mice for Allen's album.
EAST PRAIRIE - The East Prairie boys baseball squad continued to play long ball as it hit two homers in Friday's 8-3 win over Portageville.
