OAK RIDGE -- Chaffee's volleyball team won its first varsity match in over two years, beating Oak Ridge in two sets on Thursday.
The Lady Red Devils won the first set 15-2, then the second 15-6.
"I knew it was just a matter of time," said first-year coach Dave Mirly. "We have been playing well lately. We started the season off kind of slow, with the girls learning the new system, but we've been improving every game."
Jennifer Vandeven recorded six blocks, two digs and had three kills. Ashley Graham provided two blocks.
"The biggest reason for our turnaround is the seniors on this team," said Mirly. "Ashley Graham and Jennifer Vandeven are doing a good job and leading by example. I'm really proud of the whole team. They deserve this victory tonight."
Ashton Lee had three assists and six points. Natalie Townsend had one block, three digs and nine points. Mallory Kiefer had three blocks, two digs and five points.
Lindsey Everett had three digs, and Molly Fowler contributed two digs, 10 points and two aces.
Chaffee will be back in action on Monday, traveling to NMCC for a 6 p.m. match.
