CHARLESTON - The City Council in a regular session Tuesday evening heard a report on the local Home Health Service, scheduled a public meeting on the proposed abandonment of rail lines and discussed formation of an Emergency Management Program.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce election results were announced by Pat Marble, chamber manager. Re-elected to the board were Howard Gipson, builder/developer and Bill Palmer, retail. New board members are Gary Whitworth, financial and Jeff Sheehy, member-at-large.
BENTON - Scott County Sheriff Bill Ferrell said four inmates attempted to start a fire in the Scott County jail about 6 p.m. Monday. The inmates attempted to set fire to a flame-retardant mattress in the south-rear of the jail. The New Hamburg, Benton, Commerce (NBC) Rural fire personnel assisted the sheriff's department in clearing the jail of smoke that accumulated in the attempt to ignite the mattress. No injuries were reported.
BENTON - Scott County Commissioners have chosen an architect to begin plans for the proposed jail facility, estimated to cost approximately $3.4 million. Working in conjunction with A.G. Edwards Investment bankers will be Robert Stearnes and Associates.
