SIKESTON - Many Missouri school programs for the disabled are being threatened by a struggle over funding, but area officials assure residents they intend to protect children from the conflict. The debate is between federal law and a state Supreme Court ruling made in June. It occurred when the court struck down a year-old law requiring local districts to offer programs for disabled preschoolers and pay 10 percent of their cost.

EAST PRAIRIE - The denial of a package liquor license to Bob and Anita Presley at the July 9 meeting by the city council was not rescinded as requested by the applicants at Thursday's council session. The council denied the liquor license application based on the intended business being within 300 feet of the R.A. Doyle Elementary School.
