SIKESTON - Flora M. Hawkins, 105, died at 12:01 a.m. March 15, 2005, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1899, in Greenfield, daughter of the late Joseph and Laura McLemore, a graduate of Drury College in Springfield, she taught elementary school in Greenfield and in Kansas City for a number of years. She had also been a buyer for the Millinery Department of Macy's Department Store in Kansas City for many years. She had been a member of the Van Brunt Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, and she was a member of Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church in Sikeston, where she received the Presbyterian Women's Lifetime Membership Award in 1999.
On June 10, 1922, in Kansas City, she married Lester Hawkins who preceded her in death on July 24, 1953. One son, Joe Bob Hawkins along with one brother and one sister also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Dr. Bob Ahlvin of Sikeston; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Kansas City and a future service will be held at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church and will be announced at a later date. Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
