Bell City blows past Woodland in second half, Risco topples Cooter

BELL CITY -- The Cubs kept their Stoddard County Conference record untarnished at 5-0 with a 78-53 win over Woodland on Tuesday.

Trailing 32-31 at the half, Bell City turned it up in the third period, outscoring the Cardinals 26-9.

"I was really proud of Kerry Lasters, the job he did defensively and probably his best offensive game of the year," said Bell City coach David Heeb. "Our older kids, in general, really took a big step forward tonight."

Freshmen D. D. Gillespie paced the Cubs with 22 points, while juniors Blaine Stewart, Lasters and Jeff Liggins added 14, 12 and 11, respectively.

Seth Gaines topped Woodland with 30 points.

Bell City (9-5) meets conference foe Bloomfield on Friday. Risco 67, Cooter 45

RISCO -- Risco (4-8, 1-2) won its first Tri-County Conference game with a 67-45 victory over Cooter on Tuesday. Led by 20 points from Andrew Halford, the Tigers placed three players in double figures. Brice Earnheart finished with 16 points and Robert Fowler added 12.

"We played solid for four quarters," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "It's the first time in a while we've put four quarters together and a lot of that keys on the play of our point guard. When Earnheart plays well, we usually play pretty well."

Risco hosts conference foe Holcomb in its homecoming game on Friday.

BROSELEY -- New Madrid County Central fell to 2-12 with its loss to Twin Rivers on Tuesday.

Kelly 53, Scott City 32

BENTON -- Kelly's girls continued to roll with a 53-32 conference victory over Scott City on Tuesday.

The Lady Hawks improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference.

Kelly Essner paced Kelly with 19 points, while Nora Glaser led the Lady Rams with 12.

Kelly meets St. Vincent on Monday.
