Former area couple will mark golden anniversary

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- Friends and relatives of the Rev. and Mrs. Donald R. Tawney, formerly of East Prairie, Mo., are invited to attend the couple's golden anniversary celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. June 27 in the Bessie Byrum Lounge at Park Place Church of God, located at 501 College Drive in Anderson.

On June 28, 1954, at the First Church of God in East Prairie, Tawney and Lenora Lewis were married by the late Rev. Hillery C. Rice.

A 1950 graduate of Sikeston Senior High School in Sikeston, Mo., Mrs. Tawney is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Lewis. She is a retired elementary school teacher, but is presently employed as a substitute teacher in the Hamilton Southeastern School System in Hamilton County.

Tawney has served as pastor of several Churches of God in Missouri, Illinois, Alabama, Indiana and Maryland. Currently he is the pastor of the First Church of God in Lawrenceville, Ill. The couple also graduated from Anderson University in Anderson.

The event is hosted by the couple's children and their spouses: Donna and Duane Hammel and Leigh Ann and Tod Utter of McCordsville; Donald and Cheryl Tawney Jr. of Pflugerville, Texas; and Brian and Jackie Tawney of Rockwall, Texas. They also have 16 grandchildren.
