SIKESTON - Major Will G. Miller has been awarded the Bronze Star for "meritorious service in direct support of combat operations," it was learned this week. The officer is connected with a tactical air communications squadron and the decoration was bestowed on him Oct. 11 for his part in the D-Day operations.

SIKESTON - The board of the Missouri Delta Community Hospital, in session Thursday noon, decided to launch a campaign to raise $200,000 of the $600,000 needed to match a similar amount from federal Hill-Burton funds with which to build a 50-bed addition to the hospital, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Coleman announced they would give $40,000 of the sum and the directors are confident that with this start they will be able to raise the remaining one-third.

EAST PRAIRIE - Forward Eckkie Hines, the only returning starter from last year's East Prairie basketball team, may not be able to answer the opening bell because of an ankle injury. Hines, a 6-foot forward who led the Eagles in rebounding last season, averaged 12.2 points per game for 15-10 East Prairie.

SIKESTON - A program about positive parenting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sikeston Kindergarten Center. Jeannie Williams will speak at the event, which is sponsored by Parents As Teachers and Early Childhood Programs of Sikeston Public Schools. Child care will be provided.


MINER - Sikeston Factory Outlet Stores and the American Red Cross are conducting a blood drive Friday from 1:30-6:30 p.m.
