SIKESTON - The Middle School on Tanner Street was robbed sometime between Saturday noon and 11 a.m. Sunday with a loss estimate at around $1,481 in cash and checks. Entrance was gained by the burglar or burglars by breaking the lock on a back door, and then forcing the lock that entered Principal Sam Harbin's office. The steel vault door had a hole, measuring six by eight inches, chiseled through two steel plates and three-inch asbestos. The burglar was able to reach through the door to open the lock and get into the vault room.

EAST PRAIRIE - The Broadway musical "Annie" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday by the Choral Music Department of East Prairie High School under the direction of Nancy Bird. The title role of Annie, the little orphan girl who lives on tomorrows, is portrayed by Sandy Wilmurth.

The Republican governor-elect will be the state's chief executive when, for the first time in its history, Missouri has legalized horse race betting and a state lottery.
