SIKESTON - Mrs. B.J. Marshall entertained a group of children at a party Monday afternoon in honor of the third birthday anniversary of her daughter, Judith Ann. Guests were Carol Logan Green, Shirley Reed, Wendall Hall Jr., D'Anna Fowler, Harry Garwood Sharp, Bobby Mow, Glenn Matthews Jr., Tony Heckemeyer, Patty Allard, Billy Sutton and Robert Harwell.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Ceramics Plant will not be closed but will continue in operation with no change in personnel, it was announced this morning by the attorney for the company, Robert A. Dempster.


SIKESTON - Carroll McAfee, who has been a contestant in the National Cotton Picking Contest at Blytheville every year beginning in 1954, won second place and $250 Friday in the competition at Blytheville.

SIKESTON - Rumors of an epidemic of conjunctivitis - or pink eye - during the first week of school have been confirmed by a Scott County Health Department official, but the worst seems to be over. However, some local directors and the director of nursing for Sikeston Public Schools don't believe the problem should be termed an epidemic.

EAST PRAIRIE - The R-2 School District Board of Education has joined with other school districts in the area in the fight against Gov. John Ashcroft's proposed cuts in funding for education to aid desegregation. Monday evening, approval was given to contribute $500 toward litigation costs in a proposed lawsuit aimed at curtailing the use of education funds for Kansas City's federally ordered desegregation.
