SIKESTON -- Sikeston's volleyball team defeated Charleston in straight sets Monday night, 15-3, 15-9.

With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 8-7-1 on the season heading into tonight's match at Jackson.

"We played okay in the first game, but we were very sloppy in the second match," said Sikeston coach Steve Beydler. "We were trying out a new defense tonight, and the girls were a little confused at times of where they should be. Charleston made a run at us in that second game. We should've put it away a lot earlier than we did."

As a team, Sikeston served 86.8 percent. Beth French had one ace, Stefanie Mason had two, and Summer Ray had one. All three served 100 percent on the night.

Sikeston also saw four aces from Fleming Silverthorn, three from Emily Slaten and one from Joy Daniel.

Daniel paced the offense with 11 kills and two blocks. Slaten and Shavonna Dirickson each had six kills, Silverthorn and Rachael Vining each had four, while Ray and Mason both contributed two.

Sikeston won the junior varsity match 15-1, 15-4.

ORAN -- Oran's volleyball team rallied to beat Zalma in three sets Monday night, 12-15, 15-6, 15-2.

Jessica Prino had 11 points, Teresa Hodges had nine points, and Candance Duncan contributed six digs. Maria Eftink dominated, finishing with 14 kills and seven blocks. Oran (7-5-1) will host Scott City tonight at 6:30 p.m.
