CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Kelly cross country team had a strong showing at the Cape Central Invitational on Saturday.
Fox of Arnold came out on top in the 2.6 mile event. Kelly finished in sixth place while Sikeston placed seventh out of 11 teams in the tournament.
For Kelly, Adam Daughetee finished in 13th place with a time of 15:07; Ashley Hahn, who has won medals in all three races this year, took 15th place with a time of 15:14; Adam Lofton took 24th place at 15:29; Trey Simmons took 37th place at 16:00; and Lance Scheffer took 42nd place at 16:09.
Lance Ferrell and Andrew Mothershead took 43rd (16:14) and 45th (16:25) respectively.
In the junior varsity, Kelly took fifth out of eight teams. Finishing in 12th place was Chris Romas (17:07); 19th place was Bud Worley (17:44); 38th place was Donnie Riley (18:44); 46th place was Tyler Long (19:05); and 47th place was Todd Brucker (19:08).
Brent Heuring (20:44), Adam Duncan (21:50) and Joey Walker (23:15) competed but weren't among Kelly's top five.
Kelly didn't have enough freshmen (five is needed) to compete for points but four runners took part in the invitational.
Michael Glastetter took first at 16:04; Derek Felter took 20th at 18:20; Trent Walker was 33rd at 20:09; and Ryan Koch was 35th at 20:18.
On the girls side, Kelly finished seventh out of seven teams. Shannon Lawson was 26th (21:03); Katrena Martin was 44th (22:13); Janessa Burford was 47th (22:31); Julie Vetter was 51st (24:25); and Katie Heeb was 52nd (24:26).
Kelly will compete in the 39th Annual Pepsi Cola Hancock Invitational next Saturday.
