SIKESTON - Irene Nelson Fears, 84, died at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 12, 2001, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born Jan. 22, 1917, in Newbern, Tenn., daughter of the late John Thomas and Esther Lee Dickson Griffin, she was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ. She was a licensed practical nurse for the Sikeston Regional Center and was the nurse for schools in Sikeston and Bernie.
On Nov. 3, 1933, in Sikeston, she married Orville Nelson who preceded her in death on May 11, 1972. She later married Corbett Fears who also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two sons, J.W. Nelson of Sikeston and Orville "Pee Wee" Nelson of Malden; two daughters, Janet Tuttle and Marlene Burgess of Sikeston; one brother, John T. Griffin Jr. of Sikeston; two sisters, Virginia Gwaltney and Betty Jones of Sikeston; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday. Pat Hogan, minister of Shady Acres Church of Christ, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Nelson, Todd Tuttle, Jamie Shain, Chris Shain, Johnathan Clayton and Milford Jones.
