SIKESTON -- Sikeston's softball team closed out the regular season on Thursday with a 7-2 loss to Delta.

The Lady Bulldogs will now compete in the 4A District 1 Tournament that starts next week in Jackson.

In yesterday's game, Sikeston trailed just 3-2 before Delta pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning.

"It was a pretty good game," said Sikeston coach Jenny Hobeck. "We played a lot better defensively. We did have a few errors, but not near as many as we have been making."

Jessica Owens pitched all seven innings for the Lady Bulldogs, allowing 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

"I thought Jessica did a great job," said Hobeck. "If we could've just gotten some runs for her."

For Delta, Rebecca Cook pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, then was relieved by Sarah Cook, who threw the rest of the way. Sikeston recorded five hits against the two, with Kerri Jones leading the charge batting 2-for-3. Other hits came from Owens, Misti Clark, and Caroline McClung.

For Delta, Rebecca Cook and Rebecca Below were both 2-for-4. Alex Nussbaum was 2-for-3. The Lady Bobcats improved to 7-6 with the victory.

Sikeston (2-13) is expecting to receive brackets for next week's district tournament today.

"We've got a tough district with Cape Central, Jackson, Poplar Bluff and Farmington," said Hobeck. "We've already faced Central, Bluff and Farmington, but we haven't played Jackson yet."

EAST PRAIRIE -- East Prairie's softball team picked up its fourth win of the season, edging East Carter 6-4.

Meghen Massey pitched all seven innings for the Lady Eagles, allowing 10 hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

East Prairie plated the six runs on 14 hits. Massey led the charge, batting 4-for-4 with two triples. Jessie Wallace, Lacy Tatum and Jill Hequembourg were all 2-for-4. The Lady Eagles also saw hits from Tabitha Johnson, Summer Holdiness, Heather Christian, and Bailey Penrod.

East Prairie (4-6) will host St. Vincent on Monday.
