FREDERICKTOWN -- The Tri-State women's slow pitch softball team won first place at the Fredericktown Women's Autumn Softball Tournament on Sept. 15.
Tri-State finished with a 4-1 record, with their only loss coming to D&D Towing in their first game. Tri-State then went on to beat teams from Farmington, Fredericktown and Wentzville. The last game again pitted Tri-State against D&D Towing.
In the early innings, the score jockeyed back and forth. Then in the fourth inning Tri-State went on a hitting streak and never let up. The final score of 15-6 gave Tri-State the win. With some new players to help solidify the team, Tri-State is gearing up for the USA National Women's Tournament in Kentucky next month, where they hope to make a god showing.
Team members are from the Sikeston area, St. Louis, Henderson, Ky., and Jackson and Memphis, Tenn.
Members of the Tri-State softball team are Paula Wilson, Debbie Throop, Helen Chaney, Missy James, Nicky James, Mary Walker, DeAnna Ort-Phelps, DeAnna Jones, Crystal Barber, Yvette Rhea, and Denise Storey.
