NEW MADRID - Vaughn L. Odom, of New Madrid, 74, died Oct. 24, 2001, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born May 9, 1927, in Harmony, Arkansas, son of the late Argus and Edna Mason Odom, Vaughn was a veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Islands. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy he was an automobile transport driver for Ford Association and Cassen Transport Company in Fenton. At the time of his death he was of the Catholic belief.
In 1947, he married Ada R. Beaher who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry V. Odom and Marsha M. Odom of Smithfield, Va., and John L. Odom and Ann Odom of New Madrid; four grandchildren, Samantha Odom Patterson of Atlanta, Ga., Christopher Odom of Ft. Campbell, Ky., and Justin Odom and Ryan Odom of Smithfield; four great-grandchildren, Kimberly Patterson and Mason Patterson of Atlanta and Allie Odom and Abbie Odom of Ft. Campbell; and one aunt, Angerie Hardgrave of New Madrid.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Odom Freeman and Dixie Odom Rhodes.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Richard's Funeral Home in New Madrid. Mass will be celebrated at 11 p.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church by Monsignor Michael Swalina.
Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery.
