SIKESTON - Gladys M. Reed, proprietor of the Vogue Beauty Shop, is a great believer in "freedom of the dress." So she was more than a little miffed when a beauty parlor inspector walked into her establishment while she was away Wednesday and ordered all operators to lay aside their play suits among moth balls and put on dresses. This has been a hot summer in Sikeston, and since July 1, Vogue operators have been wearing neat white play suits.

SIKESTON - Eugene Palmer and Leroy Conley returned Tuesday night from St. Louis where they underwent two weeks intensive training at Zenith Technical School. The training was for instructing dealers regarding the new Zenith color television sets, which will be out sometime in October.

SIKESTON - Construction has begun on a 50,000-foot expansion program at Triangle PWC Inc. Sikeston facility at 1620 E. Malone Ave.


SIKESTON - A budget in excess of $40,000 was approved Tuesday by the United Way Board of Directors.

SIKESTON - Starting school is a special time for families, but for one local family, it's a miracle. When Jessica Holly was born in February 1988, she weighed only 14 3/4 ounces. Doctors did not expect her to live even 24 hours. This "miracle baby" started preschool this year.


EAST PRAIRIE - The crafts and skills of the people who settled Missouri in the early 1800s will be practiced at Living History Day at Big Oak Tree State Park. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources on Saturday.
