Warming shelters established locally

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

SIKESTON - Due to power outages in Sikeston, a warming shelter was established Tuesday at the First Baptist Church at 1101 N. Main, Sikeston.

This is a warming shelter only, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Individuals will need to bring their own items to the shelter such as chairs, blankets, cots or any other items of comfort.

Seven warming stations were open throughout Tuesday in Scott County then closed at 7:30 p.m. However, shelter throughout the evening was made available in the training facilities at the Scott County Sheriff's Department. Food was provided by the Salvation Army, while the American Red Cross lent cots for those needing a warm place to sleep.
