ANNA, Ill. - Joseph Edward "Joe" Burk Jr., 69, formerly of Mississippi County, Mo., died at 7:12 a.m. Aug. 8, 2004, at the Heartland Medical Center in Marion.
Born Aug. 31, 1934, in Hornersville, Mo., son of the late Joseph Edward and Edith Mae Price Burk Sr., he was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He lived in Mississippi County most of his life, where he worked for the Simmons Equipment Company Sales Department for 15 years. He then worked for the Shawnee Equipment Company at Vienna for eight years. After returning to Charleston, he worked for the Medlin Equipment Company until retiring.
On July 22, 1959, he married Jo Ann Mathis who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons, Michael Lynn Burk of Belleville, Terry Joe Burk of Edwardsville and Gregory Dale Burk of Anna; one brother, Coy Burk of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Iva Norris of St. Charles, Mo., and Gleda Murray of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony Paul Burk; and two sisters, Janice Kay Burk and Aletris Burk.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo., where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ted Wimberley of Charleston will officiate.
Burial will follow in East Prairie (Mo.) Memorial Park Cemetery.
