ORAN - Benjamin Howell McVay, 82, died at 9:25 p.m. Aug. 12, 2001, at the Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 13, 1919, in Haleyville, Ala., son of the late William Benjamin and Mittie Bradley McVay, he was a carpenter with Kluesner Construction in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the Benton United Methodist Church and Morley Masonic Lodge 184.
On Sept. 17, 1938, he married Helen Nadine Newcomb who preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 1989.
Survivors include: two sons, Howell W. McVay of LaSalle, Ill., and Harvey W. McVay of Jackson; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Masonic rites are scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Visitation will continue from noon Wednesday until service time at 2 p.m. at the Benton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karen Taylor will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery at Commerce.
