Theft ring broken up

Monday, September 10, 2001

BENTON - Two Sikeston men are in jail following a multi-jurisdictional investigation.

Brian D. Lambert, 30, of 1610 County Road 528 and Bobby L. Kennedy Jr., 26, of 228 Watson are charged with possession of stolen property. Bond for each is set at $25,000.

According to Scott County Sheriff Bill Ferrell, officers from Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi and Stoddard counties as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the SEMO Drug Task Force joined efforts to investigate a large-scale theft ring involving farm equipment, trailers and four-wheelers in the Southeast Missouri area.

The investigation led officers to some of the equipment. Officers conducted surveillance on the equipment and arrested Lambert and Kennedy when they attempted to move the equipment.

The investigation also led to the issuance of two search warrants and Ferrell expects additional arrests regarding the theft ring and recovery of more property.
