CHAFFEE -A young woman died and three other people
were injured in a one-vehicle accident early Tuesday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the
accident occurred at 7:12 a.m. on Scott County Highway
77, one mile north of Chaffee. According to the
report, Danny R. Reed, 20, of Cape Girardeau, was
driving south when his vehicle ran off the roadway and
struck a utility pole. A power line fell onto the
vehicle, which subsequently caught on fire.
Darlene Haley, 19, of Cape Girardeau, died in the
accident. Services have been scheduled by Ponder
Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Reed, who sustained serious injuries, was transported
by air to St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St.
Louis.
Also injured in the accident were passengers Lakeish
Johnson, 16, and Candice Long, 14, both of Cape
Girardeau. They were taken by private vehicle to
Southeast Missouri Hospital for treatment of minor
injuries.
