Kelly cross country places third in Carbondale Invite

CARBONDALE - Kelly's cross country team competed in the Carbondale Invitational on Saturday, taking third place in the boys race with 64 team points.

Farmington won the race with 40, Sparta took second with 52. The Hawks were followed by Herrin, Carbondale, Marion, Henderson (Ky.) and DuQuoin.

Adam Daughhetee took seventh place on the 5.1-mile course with a time of 18:31. Other Kelly finishers were Adam Lofton (13th, 18:56), Ashley Hahn (15th, 19:02), Michael Glastetter (17th, 19:12), Lance Scheffer (21st, 19:25), Lance Ferrell (23rd, 19:30), Andrew Mothershead (24th, 19:49).

In the junior varsity race (2.4 miles), Trey Simmons took first overall with a time of 14:45. Other Kelly finishers were Chris Romas (4th, 15:41), Tyler Long (9th, 16:00), Derek Felter (15, 16:54), Ryan Koch (21st, 17:38), Trent Walter (25th, 18:13), Donnie Riley (26th, 18:35), Brant Heuring (31st, 19:54), and Joey Walker (32nd, 19:55).

In the girls varsity race (2.4 miles), Kelly had six racers with times from Shannon Lawson (18:50), Kristina New (20:39), Janessa Burford (20:48), Katie Heeb (20:57), Julia Vetter (21:20), Katrena Martin (21:36).

In the junior varsity girls race, Kelly finishers were Natalie Walter (21:46), Ashley Seyer (24:35), and Natalie Scherer (25:23).

Kelly will host the conference tournament on Thursday at 4 p.m. The varsity boys will run at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity girls at 4:30, the junior varsity boys at 5, and the junior varsity girls at 5:30. Kelly cross country places third in Carbondale Invite
