Sikeston 14-year-old team headed to state tourney

DEXTER - The Sikeston 14-year-old All-Star team advanced to state by winning their district tournament in Dexter on July 19. Sikeston defeated the New Madrid County All-Stars 12-5 and 19-0 to qualify for the state tournament in Boonville.

The Sikeston team in the first game was led by the pitching of Tyler Ramey and Timmy Bell. Josh Pierce and Chase Ferrell led the offense with three hits. Scott Droddy, Nick Lambert, Cody Anderson and Adam Kimball all added two hits while Matt Rushing had one hit.

In the second game, Droddy pitched a shutout allowing only three hits. The offense was on fire as Sikeston scored 19 runs in five innings.

Lambert led the way with four hits including a home run. Ferrell had three hits while Pierce and Clayton Mayfield each had two hits. Droddy hit a triple while Anderson and Bell each had one hit. Kimball launched an inside the park home run to round out the 15-hit attack.

The team left for Boonville Wednesday to play the District 4 champ which was yet to be determined.

Other members of the team are Hunter Dillender and Mark Freed.

The team is coached by Todd Pierce, Kelly Rushing, Justin Ramey and Terry Lambert.
