SIKESTON - Miss Alice Van Horne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Horne, underwent an appendix operation at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau Monday morning.

BLODGETT - Miss Louise Neinstedt of Blodgett was the honoree of a surprise birthday party at her home Thursday night, given by the other members of the Blodgett School Facility, of which Miss Neinstedt is a member.

SIKESTON - Charles L. Blanton Jr., editor-publisher of the Daily Standard, was elected chairman of the Missouri Associated Press Group at the publisher's meeting in Kansas City Monday. He succeeds Lang Rogers of the Joplin Globe.

SIKESTON - Deaf mutes in Sikeston are being provided a means of emergency communications by telephone with Missouri Delta Community Hospital, Charles Ancell, controller of the hospital facility, said.

NEW MADRID - A $2,500 check from Lilbourn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7183 will assist in the construction of the New Madrid Historical Museum's annex. Attending the presentation were Tom Williams, trustee; Jim Mainord, post commander; and Museum Board of Trustee members Evelyn Duncan, Riley Bock, Kim Hall, Libba Crisler and Lynn Bock.

NEW MADRID - Work will move into high speed on the city's proposed new sewer lagoon following overwhelming voter approval of a bond proposal. With more than a 300-vote margin, voters approved the $1.2 million bond issue which will help fund the construction of a new sewage lagoon and other improvements to the sewer system.
