SIKESTON - Sikeston police are investigating a burglary at the Bernard Bush home, 509 Kathleen. Taken was a man's overcoat, a high school class ring and a .32 caliber pistol.
SIKESTON - It seems when an appeal is made to the folks in the Sikeston Public School system to help on the Community Fund each year, just about everybody connected with the system gets into the act. According to Mrs. Jewell Allen, this year's contributions to the Red Feather fund topped all previous ones - $1,735.55. The receipt of this contribution bumped the percentage of quota to 65 percent.
SIKESTON - Approximately 100 members of the Missouri State Conference of the NAACP have gathered here for the annual state meeting. Topics of discussion include networking for legislative change, fair housing, the NAACP and how it operates and the job market in Missouri.
SIKESTON - An additional incentive for maintaining top grades has been developed for Sikeston's Public School students. Students who attain a B or better average each quarter will receive a card entitling them to a 10 percent discount at participating local businesses. The students will also be eligible for gift certificates if they maintain honor roll status throughout the year.
ORAN - A strong defensive effort in the second half helped Oran earn its first win of the season Tuesday with a 67-43 victory over visiting Leopold. The Eagles led 16-13 after the first quarter and by just 11 points - 30-19 at halftime. Friday's game, the season opener for Oran, ended in a 79-74 loss. Dustin McIntosh led Oran (1-1) with 15 points followed by Israel Shaffer with 12 and Dustin Massey with 11. Kenny Owen also had 12.
