SIKESTON - "In 29 years, it's the hardest job I've ever had," said Sikeston American Legion baseball manager Don Miller. He wasn't talking about his team's first win in the District 14 Tournament Saturday. He was talking about getting a team on the VFW Stadium turf. After a day of player no-shows, injuries and countywide player hunts, Sikeston beat New Madrid 6-3 in the losers bracket opener Saturday.

SIKESTON - The Missouri State Federation of Square Dancers was held in Sikeston on Sunday afternoon at the Senior High Cafetorium, with the Southeast Missouri Square Dancers Association as hosts.

SIKESTON - John Cohen of Sikeston was the winner in last week's News Bingo game. He received $300 in the weekly contest.

SIKESTON - For only the second time in history, a local crew of referees will officiate the 16th Annual Missouri Lions High School All-Star Football Game Saturday night in Jefferson City. To be selected to officiate the game, an official much have state championship game experience. The officials are: Bob Fuchs of Sikeston, Bill Mosbey of Poplar Bluff, Mark Mars of East Prairie, George Bays of East Prairie, Charles Harris of Poplar Bluff, David Hitt of Jackson and Dennis Meyr of Poplar Bluff.

SIKESTON - The winners have been named of the Sikeston Ladies Golf Invitational Scramble Tournament recently played at the Sikeston Country Club. The winners were: Barb Johnson and Saralyn Boyer, championship class; Harriet Drusch and Doris Stepp, class A; Alice Huff and Joyce Arnold, class B; and Dee Bailey and Mildred Nicholson, class C.
