SIKESTON - Loomis Mayfield was reported recovered today from a hemorrhage which had kept him confined to his bed since last Friday.


SIKESTON - Charles Matthews, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Matthews III, sustained a fractured arm in a basketball game at Chaffee Friday night.

SIKESTON - A kickoff meeting and dinner was held by the Chamber of Commerce building committees in the campaign to raise $20,000 to build a new Chamber office building.

NEW MADRID - The Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site along Highway U in New Madrid is being decorated with live evergreen boughs, arrangements of holly and magnolia and mistletoe, reminiscent of a Victorian Christmas, in anticipation of the annual Christmas open house and candlelight tours.


SCOTT CITY - It was a meeting of emotion and accusation, often with one Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority commissioner seemingly pitted against another. By the end of Monday's meeting, nothing had been decided on who and how to choose an at-large member to the nine-member board.

SIKESTON - The Burlington Northern Santa Claus Express steamed through the Heartland Thursday night. The train made brief stops at Lilbourn and Sikeston before heading to Cape Girardeau. More than 2,000 sightseers came to see the brightly-lit Christmas train which stopped next to Bess Supply in Sikeston.


SIKESTON - Re-election filing dates for the Sikeston Public School Board of Education are just around the corner. The first day to file is at 8 a.m. Dec. 23 and the last day is 5 p.m. Jan. 20. The filing location is at the office of Rice Pete Burns Jr., 733 North Main. The election will take place on April 7.
