SIKESTON - Freezing temperatures followed in the wake of rainfall. Residents woke to find pools of water in lawns and frozen solid in ditches.
PINHOOK - The solution of what to do with some 20 high school age pupils of the Pinhook Community who live in a common school district that has no high school is still unsettled. Eighteen of them were finally located in the Anniston High School and the rest in New Madrid High School.
SIKESTON - Don Wilson, formerly of Ellisville, has been named manager for Sikeston Memorial Airport. Wilson has over 30 years in aviation. He was one of 35 applicants for the job and begins his duties Dec. 1.
SIKESTON - The four-county area will receive $78,991 from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. Scott County's EFSP check will be for $28,433, according to notification received by the county commissioners. A total of $21,745 is available for distribution in Stoddard County. New Madrid County has $16,684 and Mississippi County, $12,129. The grant is given to supplement and extend ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services for the homeless.
SIKESTON - Myron Hawes was named the 1991 Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer at the Farmer's Recognition Banquett. Jaycee Jeff Sutton presented a plaque to the honoree.
SIKESTON - Every employee at the Bank of Sikeston's Midtown Branch donated to the United Way fund this year. The employees are Jean Wade, Ana Jackovic, Sue Moore, Bonnie Lindsey, Ural Coppage, Steve McPheeters, Janet McKinney, Janet Sloan and Gerri McGee.
