SIKESTON - Edith E. York, 83, died Jan. 30, 2002, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.

Born Oct. 16, 1918, in Bollinger County, daughter of the late Clarence A. and Ozark Jane Yount Miller, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston. She had been a Foster Grandparent for Sikeston Public Schools and was an activity director for various Sikeston area nursing homes before retiring.

Her husband, Commodore R. York Sr., preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1986.

Also preceding her in death were one son, C.R. York Jr.; one grandson, C.R. York III; and eight brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Charlotte York of Sikeston; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Stephen Jones of Sikeston; one daughter-in-law, Glenda Sue Riley of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Cara Frazier and Brenna York of Sikeston and Jamie Lindley of Anderson, Ind.; and one great-grandson, Matthew Keene of Sikeston.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. Saturday until service time at 1 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. David Jackson, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
