SACC maps ready soon

The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce publishes many items such as magazines and maps that are used by area residents and businesses. Unfortunately, there are vendors who come into our area and pretend or insinuate that they are partnering with the Chamber on products like maps, directories, calendars, etc. This has happened recently in reference to a city/county map.

The Chamber is currently finishing up our ad sales for the city map we publish about every 18 months. A local vendor, Moll Printing, is handling the printing for us. We give out over 6,000 of these maps each year to prospective businesses, residents, tourists, city and county utility workers, sheriff and police departments - basically anyone who needs a map.

If you are interested in an ad for the Sikeston/Miner map, contact the SACC office at 471-2498. If you are ever contacted about advertising in an project that sound suspicious do not hesitate to contact the Chamber to verify the program.

I wanted to also mention this month the Chamber will host the 10th Annual Redneck Barbecue, Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Sikeston Sports Complex/Clinton Building.

This year we are fortunate to have Taskmaster Components as our corporate sponsor and we appreciate the support of Tim Walker and his staff at Taskmaster Components with this event. We are currently accepting entries for the barbecue teams. We have also added a children's barbecue category for ages 7-13. There are just a few booth spaces open for the craft show at the Clinton Building.

We will have children's games, the chicken chunking contest and entertainment throughout the day. The craft show will begin at 8 a.m. and the barbecue activities start at dawn with the winners announced around 3 p.m.

So come on out Rodeo Saturday for the fun.
