BERTRAND - Mary Margaret Blackburn, 71, died at 1:55 p.m. Dec. 29, 2001, at the Bertrand Nursing Facility.
Born June 30, 1930, at Collinwood, Tenn., to the late James Alonzo and Exie Marie Owens Martin, she had lived in Mississippi County most of her life. She was employed as a secretary for the late Rod Ashby, attorney-at-law in Charleston, and for the City of Bertrand for a number of years. A member of the Abundant Grace Church at Bertrand, she had served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and also had taken care of a number of children in this area.
On Oct. 19, 1957, at Bertrand, she married Richard Raymond Blackburn, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Richard Keith Blackburn of Topeka, Kan., and Mark Alan Blackburn of Fort Belvoir, Va.; one daughter, Marlana Blackburn Patton of Dawson Springs, Ky.; four brothers, Jack Martin of Sikeston, Talmadge Martin of Paducah, Ky., Ted Martin of Bertrand and J.W. Martin of Brighton, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Martin, and two sisters, Doris Roberts and Hazel Stults.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Larry Kirby, pastor of the Abundant Grace Church of Bertrand, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Clint Kirby, Keith Coots, Robert Earl Crosier, Robert Thomas Crosier, Mike Gentry and Mike Poyner.
