Sikeston beaten by state's best

Thursday, November 29, 2001

SIKESTON -- Sikeston's wrestling team got an opportunity to see exactly where it stands Tuesday night, wrestling the top-ranked Farmington.

The undefeated Knights have won Missouri Class 3A for the last two years and were ranked No. 1 in this year's preseason poll. Sikeston lost the match 53-21, but coach Chris Moore, who was filling in for Chris Hodgkiss, was pleased with the effort.

"Last year they beat us 84-0," Moore pointed out. "This year we wrestled a lot better. We just came up a little short."

Due to injuries, Sikeston had to forfeit the 135 and heavyweight classes, giving away 12 crucial points.
