Sikeston and Miner, Missouri, are happy to announce our marketing efforts are paying off!
In October 2006 we attended a TEAMS conference and expo program with 14 other members of our Small Market Focus Group. This Small Market Focus Group is a committee of small towns and cities throughout the state of Missouri who are members of the Missouri Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. We work together as a team to promote our smaller destination market organizations. We attended the TEAMS conference in Las Vegas and spoke with several organizations that were looking for cities to host their tournaments, rallies and other gatherings.
We also have a Web site which links to our individual sites for more information. This Web site proved to be the link we needed to attract the TRIKE/BIKE International Rally for 2008.
Tom Goettl, executive director of the Trike Riders International, was looking for a place to host their rally in 2008 and ran across our link to the TEAMS conference. He immediately called our office to find out more about the area, after listening to Mr. Goettl, and telling him of the opportunities we have for the rally, he was interested in a site visit. I invited him to come down for a look around, he brought along Larry Butts, the Western National director of operations, and his wife, Carol.
Goettl states the reason they selected the cities of Sikeston and Miner were because of their location, size and the friendliness of its citizens. We drew up an agreement and are now thrilled that we will be hosting the TRIKE/BIKE International Rally July 24, 25, 26, 2008.
Between 700 to 1,000 riders from all over the country and internationally will gather here for the rally. What an economic boost!
The Clinton Building will be the host site where vendors will display their goods and the Trike training is scheduled at the Elks Club. We have already begun working with some local shops for specialty items for the rally and plan to work with area tourism associations throughout southeast Missouri to put together prescheduled rides for the group as well.
We have formed a committee to work on this event and if you are interested in helping us with it, please call 471-6362 or 620-0318 and we'll be sure to invite you to our meetings.
It's going to take quite a team to host this event and all ideas and assistance will be appreciated.
