KENNETT -- The Sikeston Bulldogs soccer team got back in the win column Thursday night defeating Kennett, 2-1 in double overtime.
"I thought we played well tonight," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "We controlled the game and controlled the tempo for most of the game. We've had a lot of close games that we've lost this year so it's nice to get a 'W' especially with only one more game left before districts."
Kennett got on the board first when Alex Briscow scored an unassisted goal at the 29-minute mark. The unassisted goal stood until the 73rd minute when Sikeston's Jordan Davis took a pass from Justin Deere and put it in the back of the net, tying the game 1-1.
Sikeston and Kennett battled into a second overtime when Davis took a pass from Hunter Dillender and scored the game-winner at the 99-minute mark.
Sikeston (7-14-1) outshot Kennett 28-11. The Bulldogs played without starting goalie Scott Droddy, who is out with an injury.
"(Droddy) is a little bit banged up so Darin Dicus played goalie for us," Long said. "He's a heck of an athlete and I thought he did a really good job for us."
Dicus finished the night with 10 saves for the Bulldogs.
Kennett won the junior varsity match 1-0.
Sikeston will be off until Oct. 22 when they host the Poplar Bluff Mules.
