Speakout 11/30

Friday, November 30, 2001

I am a veteran of the Korean War and a bill was signed this year by Gov. Bill Holden to give us an honorary diploma. I just sent to the Veterans Administration and they approved it. So they sent it to Sikeston High School for completion and haven't heard anything since. They say they don't know anything about it. Your help would be appreciated.

In the Nov. 21 SpeakOut, you had an article, "Ministry to sick is needed." There was no identification given. I am interested to know if that person gave a telephone number or where we can contact them. This is Rev. Arthur Wessel at 471-4913. I would appreciate it if someone would contact me.

Does anyone know the address of the Better Business Bureau in Tulsa, Okla.?

You can write to: BBB of Tulsa, 4530 S. Sheridan, Suite 218, Tulsa, Okla. 74145; or visit www/tulsabbb.org. (e-mail - info@tulsabbb.org) The phone number is (918) 492-1266; fax (918) 492-1276.

Who do I contact to get on the Wheel of Fortune program?

Potential contestants have to audition to spin the wheel with Pat Sajek and Vanna White. Auditions are held in Los Angeles several times a year. To find out when, send a post card to: Wheel of Fortune, attention Contestant Auditions, 10202 W. Washington Blvd., Suite 2000, Culver City, Calif. 90232. Specify the date you would like to attend, along with your name, address and telephone number. More than six million people submitted contestant requests and less than 600 made it onto the show. Producers strongly suggest that you don't make the audition your primary purpose for visiting Southern California. The show's staff also advise that contestants who play with energy, poise and a sense of humor (without forgetting to call logical letters) tend to do better on the show.

Eagles fan,/b>

I am so proud of the New Madrid County Eagles. Those boys are great players! You may have lost at state, but you still won in everybody's hearts. They are great boys with great respect. I thank God they have a good coach and a good school system. God loves you all and so does everybody. We're still proud of you boys. Keep your heads up and, guess what? Next year, you will bring home the title. You all be good all year long and stay drug free.

Another deer season is over with for firearms. I went hunting the other day and was riding in Stoddard County and I saw where people are throwing old used appliances, tires and stray dogs and cats along the Castor River. I live in the country north of Sikeston and I'm driving home - there's an old stray dog, a mattress, two tires along the road. I wish you people would quit throwing your trash out in the country. They have provisions for you there in town and this would make the whole country a whole lot prettier.

I was wondering how many more of these car commercials with rock music behind them that we're going to have to see. It's so silly. I don't know why we have to put up with all those silly commercials on TV. I guess I can always turn mine off if I don't like it, but it seems like all car commercials these days are just stupid.

Programming is left up to the networks and advertising helps pay for the programs you watch.
