Thursday, November 29, 2001

SIKESTON -- Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety are looking for a man who is believed to have stolen a car and then attempted a robbery Tuesday night.

According to reports, a car was stolen from the Eagles parking lot at 219 W. Trotter St. sometime before 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. The car, described as grey in color had a dent in the passenger door and a flag in the back.

At about the same time as the car was reported stolen, a man with a ski mask and a .22 caliber gun tried to get money from Patrick Rice of Dexter at Wendy's at 1701 E. Malone. Rice tried to wrestle the gun from the man and the suspect fled in a vehicle matching the description of the one stolen from the Eagles.

Later Tuesday night, officers with the Scott County Sheriff's Department spotted the vehicle in Haywood City and began pursuit. A short time later, the suspect wrecked the car and fled on foot and is still at large.

The suspect was described as black male with a mustache wearing a grey heavy coat and blue jeans. During the attempted robbery at Wendy's, he was wearing a grey ski mask with snow patterns on the top and bottom of the mask.
