SIKESTON -- Three Rivers Community College students taking TRCC classes at the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center or the other two higher education centers operated by Southeast Missouri State University will have to pay an additional $5 per credit hour fee. The money will be used to help offset the cost of operations at the centers in Malden, Sikeston and Kennett.
TRCC and SEMO both offer classes at each of the three higher education centers.
This additional fee is the result of a $10 per clock hour "facilities use fee" imposed by SEMO upon TRCC for the use of classroom, laboratory and interactive television facilities at the centers beginning with the Fall 2004 semester. All students taking TRCC lower-division classes at any of the three centers will incur the $5 per credit hour fee, and TRCC will absorb the balance of the rental charge for facility usage.
Three Rivers Community College serves an enrollment of more than 3,200 students with an operating budget of approximately $11 million. Southeast Missouri State University's Board of Regents recently approved an $81.6 million operating budget for the next fiscal year to serve a student enrollment of around 9,500.
