FULTON, Ky. -- The Sikeston Senior American Legion Post 114 baseball team improved to 13-8 on the season with a 9-5 victory against Fulton County (Ky.) on Thursday in Fulton.
Sikeston used four different pitchers in the game to defeat the Kentuckians.
"It's a good solid win -- everybody contributed," said Sikeston coach Charlie Dye. "We had hitting up and down the lineup. We went over there and played a pretty solid ballgame."
Sikeston scored two in the second and three in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
Fulton County scored one in the third to trim the lead to four, but Sikeston tacked on two more in the fourth to extend the score to 7-1.
Fulton County got as close as 7-4 in the fifth inning but wouldn't get any closer.
Cullen DeHart was the winning pitcher in three innings of work. He allowed one run.
Ben Walters threw three innings, allowing four runs. Jordan Penn worked two scoreless innings and Jordan Kimball threw one scoreless inning.
"That's what we wanted to get accomplished tonight," said Dye of rotating his pitching staff.
"That was our gameplan. Everybody did what they were supposed to do."
Brad Deere led the offensive attack with three hits, including two doubles.
DeHart added three hits with three RBIs and Ross Merideth had three hits as well.
J.R. Bizzell, Penn, Walters and Josh Miller each had two hits for Post 114.
Lance Rhodes added one hit.
Further detailed statistics were not available as of press time.
Sikeston will play at Farmington on Saturday at 2 p.m. Post 114 will be back home to play Marshall County (Ky.) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sikeston will host Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons on Tuesday in district play.
