SIKESTON - The thermometer Monday rose to 103 degrees, which topped Sunday's high of 102, according to W.B. Seabaugh, official weather observer.
SIKESTON - Sikeston's All-Stars and the All-Stars of Scott City will square off tomorrow at VFW Stadium to decide the championship of the Sikeston Invitational Babe Ruth Tournament. The game was originally scheduled for last Saturday night, but rain forced postponement of the contest and curtailed the consolation game between Pocahontas, Ark., and Poplar Bluff. Game time will be 8 p.m. at VFW Park.
SIKESTON - The 13-year-old Sikeston Junior Babe Ruth All-Stars are off to a winning start in the preseason after Wednesday's 21-6 runaway in the District 5 tournament. Fred Turner will be coaching this team.
SIKESTON - Brittany McDonald, 13-year-old daughter of Duke and Pat McDonald of Sikeston, carried on a family tradition by succeeding her twin sister Brooke as Young Junior Miss 4th of July and Miss Congeniality. First alternate was Raven Jones, 13-year-old daughter of Dwight and Janice Jones of Malden. Second alternate was Ashley Battles, 14-year-old daughter of Tony and Elaine Pursell of Dexter.
SIKESTON - The 4-year-old class of Sikeston's Alphabet Soup Pre-School recently participated in an end of the year program and its graduation exercises. The graduates were: Logan Hampton, Michael Bollinger, Cindy Martin, Alex Yorke, Kate Colley, Sidgourdney Straughter, Rachel Yorke, Allicia Hillman, Myleka Mitchell, Jennifer Brawner, Jessica Kruger, Sarah Cook, Ryne Mitchell and Strick Green.
