SIKESTON - New residential and commercial construction and repair work were approved in eight city building permits issued during November.
BLOOMFIELD - Boyce Unger, cashier of the Bank of Bloomfield, has been named executive vice president of the bank, it was announced by the Board of Directors. Mr. Unger, who has been with the bank since 1946, will commence his duties immediately. Harry Normal will replace Mr. Unger as cashier.
SIKESTON - Sikeston's cagers opened the season with a convincing 70-48 victory over Scott Central Braves with the fast break fashioned by Tim Garner and Ed Berry in the third quarter, cracking the game wide open. The score at halftime stood 28-24 in favor of the Bulldogs.
SIKESTON - Crowned 1981 Sikeston Winter Princess Saturday at the Malone Theater was Tracey Gilmore, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gilmore.
CHARLESTON - When Air Force Senior Airman Todd Cates arrives at work before daylight Saturday, the experience will be a familiar one, but not necessarily predictable. After all, it will be the 50th anniversary of the single, most significant day in U.S. military history in the 20th century and by far the most historic day in U.S. history as he relives the day through his actions - working behind the same desk in the same building as hundreds before him have. He'll be unsuspecting on the job - as were the servicemen of that fateful day at Pearl Harbor. "This will be my third Pearl Harbor Day and they're all eerie," the 22-year-old Charleston native said.
