SIKESTON - Floyd McClellan, Gunners Mate 3/c is the first reported Sikeston fighting man home on leave after taking part in the invasion of France.


MATTHEWS - J.W. Winchester of St. Louis spent last week with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Odis Lancaster and family.

SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Jaycee are having a swimming party at the Jaycee Pool on Taylor Street beginning at 7 p.m. today. All Jaycees and their wives are invited.


SIKESTON - A cluster of nine tomatoes, weighing 6 pounds, was reported growing on one of the plants in the Wallace Howard garden, near Crowder.

SIKESTON - A survey conducted in Sikeston last week revealed strong support for a proposed constitutional amendment to legalize parimutuel horse race betting in Missouri. Of 10 persons who participated in the survey, seven were in favor of legalized horse racing in Missouri, two expressed opposition and the other favored letting the voters decide the issue but declined to voice his own position on the proposal.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Eagles received the Sportsmanship Award for last month's Mountain Home American Legion Tournament. The trophy was presented to the team between games Saturday.


BENTON - Brent Glastetter of Oran led Lyman King out of the second turn during recent street stock warm-ups at Missouri International Racepark in Benton. Rain wiped out Saturday's street stock feature race, meaning an increase of 50 percent in this week's street stock prize money. Sprints and modifieds will also compete.
