Man killed in accident

SCOTT CITY - A Scott City man sustained fatal injuries in an accident involving the motorcycle he was riding and a train.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 9:30 p.m. Friday, near Scott City, when 41-year-old Robert Veal was riding an eastbound motorcycle in the middle of the railroad tracks and as he attempted to exit the tracks was struck by an eastbound Union Pacific freight train conducted by Steven Jett, 60, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.

Veal was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHARLESTON - A two-vehicle accident resulted in minor injuries for a Charleston man.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 9:12 p.m. Friday on Mississippi County Road 105, three miles south of Charleston, when an eastbound vehicle driven by Laura Stovall, 17, of Sikeston pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Hal Reynolds of East Prairie.

Reynolds was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
