MATTHEWS - James Curtis "Monk" Rose, 62, died July 17, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Oct. 13, 1941, in Portageville, son of Ethel Fuwell Rose of Sikeston and the late Luther Rose, he was a boat operator for the Associated Electric Power Station at St. Jude Industrial Park for 17 years. A member of Crowe Congregational Methodist Church in Matthews, he was also a member of Eagles Aerie 3319 and American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston.

On June 6, 1975, at Matthews, he married Linda Kay Bledsoe who survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one daughter, Mandy Rose of St. Louis; two brothers, Gene Rose of Horton, Ala., and Lue Rose of Sikeston; one sister, Maggie Sauls of Sikeston; and a special family friend, Heather Feltmann of St. Louis.

Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dave Gargus of Wingo, Ky., will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Joe Sparks, Tom Marler, Doug Zilafro, Richie Ivie, Gary Mainord and Jimmy Lee Mainord Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Jerry Vann, Dick Mainord, Jimmy Dale Ryan and Dewayne Coleman.
