Sikeston soccer star Adam Garrett was named to the All-State second team on Thursday, becoming the first soccer player in school history to receive such an honor.
"It's something that's hard to get from a small school way outside of the St. Louis area," explained Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "If you have a good season, you might get an honorable mention, but most of those first and second team spots go to St. Louis players. Him making the second team is a pretty big honor."
This season Garrett led Sikeston's soccer program to its best record ever (9-10-1), breaking nearly every school record along the way.
He set records for goals in a season (30), career (87), game (5) and total points (189).
"He had an outstanding career," said Long. "It gives the young players here in Sikeston something to shoot for. It's good to have somebody raise the bar way up there for these younger kids. I think we'll have more all-staters coming up."
Garrett was named Southeast Region Player of the Year this season, and was an honorable mention all-stater last year.
