NEW MADRID - The Sikeston wrestling team improved its dual record to 4-2 this season with a dominating 65-6 win over New Madrid County Central.
The Bulldogs won every match except for a forfeit to NMCC's Damion Bills in the 171 weight class.
"Any time you can go on the road and come out with a win in every match you have to be pleased," said Sikeston head coach Chris Hodgkiss. "We've really performed well since Christmas break. We didn't wrestle as well as we'd liked up at the Tiger Classic and I think that motivated some guys over the break to work hard. I think you're starting to see that hard work pay off."
In the 112 class, Cody Ryan pinned Ryan Lawrence in 1:15; 119 class - Adam Miller pinned Cole Burch in 1:40; 125 class - Kyle Weeks pinned Delanio Taylor in 0:50; 130 class - Cleveland Anthony won by technical fall 21-6 over Michael Hart; 135 class - Cody Weeks won by forfeit; 140 class - Justin Keller won 11-6 over Ryan Anderson; 145 class - Tony Reynolds pinned Brian Anderson in 4:45; 152 class - Scotty Keenan pinned Steven Counts in 1:55; 160 class - Jackie Cowley won 8-6 over George Strickland; 189 class - Scott Heuiser pinned Henry Hill in 3:50; 215 class - Stuart Carraway pinned Jerry Murray in 2:25; heavyweight - Joe Johnson pinned O'Bryan Winford in 6:25 in overtime.
"Tony Reynolds and Joe Johnson were both losing their matches and came back to pin their guys," said Hodgkiss. "That showed a lot for those two. We wrestled hard tonight. There were times when things didn't go our way. We had a couple of close matches and here lately we've been winning those matches. And those are important. When you're able to do that, it really shows the dedication that your kids are putting in."
Sikeston won the junior varsity match 42-20 to improve to 2-4 on the season.
Sikeston's winners were Max Hansen (112), Shawn Cooper (119), Daniel Klimmek (125), Shay May (135), Cullen Looney (152) and Andy Croxford (189).
Sikeston's varsity will compete in the Park Hills Tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.
