NEW MADRID - Willie Lee Roberts, 80, died Jan. 8, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 2, 1921, near Jaywye in New Madrid County, son of the late Bill and Dema Wells Roberts, he was a carpenter in the New Madrid area and U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Jan. 16, 1946, in Holly Springs, Miss., he married Evelyn Hornburg who preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2001.
Survivors include: one son, William Levon Roberts of Warrenton; one daughter, Carlotta Sue Kosky of New Madrid; four sisters, Pearl Springer of Jaywye, Bessie Nanney of Portageville, Pansy Craig of St. Louis and Phyllis June Harrelston of Warrenton; and seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Everett Ray Roberts and Charles Roberts; and three sisters, Sylvia Hessling, Rose Keene and Opal Boxs.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday with Monsignor Mike Swalina, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, officiating.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by New Madrid American Legion Post 595 at the Portageville Cemetery.
