SIKESTON - W.K. Jackson, an embalmer formerly connected with the National Funeral Home, now is connected with the Buchanan Funeral Home on South Kingshighway. He and his family now are occupying an apartment at the home.

SIKESTON - At its regular monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon the Board of Education approved the employment of Janis Randon of Italy, Texas, as a teacher to be assigned to Lincoln School. The additional teacher was needed at Lincoln School to relieve an overcrowded condition in the lower grades there. This brings the total number of faculty to 163.

NEW MADRID - Monday marks the 170th anniversary of the occurrence of the nation's most violent earthquake series, the source of which appears to have been a fault zone near the Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee border.

SIKESTON - A fourth candidate filed before Friday's 5 p.m. deadline for the one seat open for election on the Sikeston City Council. Mike Jensen was added to the list of candidates.

SIKESTON - Trying to maximize the area rivers' transportation potential, representatives from the Bootheel port authorities met Thursday with state and federal transportation officials to discuss the future of river ports in the area.

SIKESTON - "Thank you, Sikeston!" Steve McPheeters, the members of the United Way Board of Directors and the 18 United Way agencies offered their thanks Thursday as the campaign exceeded its goal. More than $76,000 was brought in during the 1991 campaign which will provide funding for various social service and non-profit agencies.
